Presented as part of Bristol Artists Book Event #BABE2019 | New structures for artists’ books.

In this talk slash demonstration, Mike Clements will share and demonstrate his artist book structures slash sculptural inventions, including:

  • “The Catherine Wheel”,
  • “Spinning Top”
  • “Constricted Snake”
  • and “Jester’s Hat”.

…Also: artist’s books using the “Linked Envelope” and “Tubular Flag” structures.

Clements will also present a reading from one of the artist’s books.

Venue – Dark Studio, Level 2, Arnolfini.

 

Mike Clements is a fine art printmaker and book artist working at the Sidney Nolan Trust in the Border Marches. His ideas come from close observation of the world around, often focusing on quirky aspects of life.

Clements’ artist’s books are in public and private collections, including the Tate Gallery London; Yale Centre for British Art; and several university special collections. Recent exhibitions include Knowsley Gallery, Merseyside; Liverpool Central Library; Hereford Archives and Records Centre; Marches Makers, all in 2018.

 

Bristol Artists Book Event (BABE 2019) is a biennial festival featuring the work of bookmakers and small presses from around the world. With more than 100 makers taking part, and prices starting from just a few pounds, there will be something for everyone. Presented by Arnolfini, with Sarah Bodman (Centre for Fine Print Research, University of the West of England) and Tom Sowden (Bath School of Art and Design, Bath Spa University).
