TALKS | THE ART OF THE BOOK, STEPHEN GLENDENNING

Sunday 31 March 2019, 12:00 to 12:30

Presented as part of Bristol Artists Book Event #BABE2019 | How Artists Have Challenged The Conventions Of Publishing Throughout History.

Stephen Glendenning works as a conservation bookbinder. While his role is to preserve material culture, he is also interested in the way western culture evolves and moves forward by a willingness to challenge conventions, question the norms and deliver a touch of absurdity in the process.

This talk is about the art history of books, the rule breakers, outsiders, visionaries and inventors.

Bristol Artists Book Event (BABE 2019) is a biennial festival featuring the work of bookmakers and small presses from around the world. With more than 100 makers taking part, and prices starting from just a few pounds, there will be something for everyone. Presented by Arnolfini, with Sarah Bodman (Centre for Fine Print Research, University of the West of England) and Tom Sowden (Bath School of Art and Design, Bath Spa University).
