Tom Phillips—painter/composer/musician—has exhibited widely in this country and abroad and has participated in numerous international festivals of contemporary music. Much of his recent work in painting and composing has been concerned with a treated version of the Victorian novel A Human Document by W H Mallock. The exhibition will include a number of paintings and prints based on this source material as well as the first two parts of A Humument which is being published in a limited edition, each boxed volume of loose pages employing a different printing process.
Coloured postcards have provided another rich source of material for Tom Phillips and in addition to showing a number of paintings from postcards the Arnolfini Gallery has published, coloured postcards of Come and Go 7/2/3 which will be available from the Gallery {4p each) together with earlier postcards of other works by Tom Phillips. The Arnolfini Gallery has also published a concertina greetings card version of Come and Go together with notes by Tom Phillips on the postcard vision (10p). This exhibition, arranged by the Arnolfini Gallery, has recently been shown at Dartington Hall, Totnes, Devon and will be shown at the Welsh Arts Council Gallery, Museum Place, Cardiff 14 august—4 September 1971. John Tilbury will play music by Tom Phillips on thursday 22 July at 20 00 hrs (see below).
