Touch presents Biosphere, Fennesz and Hazard
A remarkable line-up of leading experimental music-makers from across Europe, complemented by specially commissioned artworks. A collision of sound and image, digital and natural, spectacular and intimate, this concert promises an unforgettable experience of the sensual possibilities of live performance. Spanning two decades, the audio-visual label Touch has developed radical alternatives in sound and vision. Biosphere’s music is an intimate reflection of the space and climate of his Arctic base in Tromsö. Artist Jony Easterby amplifies the sonic and visual qualities of natural phenomena – the drip of melting ice, the crackle of flame. Fennesz uses guitar and computer to create shimmering electronic sounds of enormous range and complex musicality. His lush and luminous compositions, with accompanying images by Jon Wozencroft, resemble telescopic recordings of rainforest insect life. Hazard’s compositions, filmic in scope, evoke extreme climatic conditions. “Soundtracks for spaces where, for a while, humans have not trodden.” (Vital, The Netherlands). They are accompanied by a film of slowly cross-faded still images – abstract patterns of light created by artist Heitor Alvelos. ‘The music draws you in and makes you want to listen and feel … where spectacular beauty hides unseen danger’ (Grooves, USA).
