David Musgrave is known for his understated yet poignant and sometimes playful works which demand a level of scrutiny and contemplation. His practice is an exploration of the uncertainties of representation, expression and process, usually with very simple materials – paper, plasticine, tape, graphite pencil and paint. The anthropomorphic forms in his work are both figures and abstractions; this interrelationship of image and material results in a play between the actual and the fictional, identification and estrangement.
