Melanie Counsell uses a variety of media, materials and processes. This includes working sculpturally with space, the use of objects,16mm filmmaking, drawing and printmaking. The work has often had a site specific or site generated axis combined with a special attention to how information is transported from stimulus to visual embodiment. In 2007 Melanie Counsell was awarded the Sargant Fellowship at the British School at Rome.
