Architecture Centre Talk: When We Lived in Modern Times

Wednesday 12 July 2017, 18:30 to 20:00

The good, the bad and the ugly of twentieth century housing in Bristol and beyond.

In the inter-war and postwar years, housing need and political will combined to provide the population of the UK with housing at an unprecedented rate. At a time when the country had little money our towns and cities were reshaped providing housing for all.

Whilst some of the housing provided was successful, the drive for fast construction produced failures. In this Architecture Centre event, Bristol City Council’s Historic environment officer, Pete Insole and author of Concretopia & Outskirts, John Grindrod will give their take on the good, the bad and the ugly of twentieth century housing.

This event is part of the Architecture Centre's summer programme related to their current exhibition Murdered with Straight Lines: Drawings of Bristol by Garth England (31 May to 10 September).
